Put A Period is a non-profit organisation working to alleviate period poverty, address challenges of healthcare access, and raise awareness regarding reproductive health in Bangladesh. The organisation’s work is rooted in field surveys, extensive data collection, and literature research. They routinely organise targeted workshops to engage with grassroots communities to implement their awareness programs. Put A Period was founded by Afra Fairooz, Nahian Rashha, Maisha Tasneem, and Sultana Razia. Put A Period is a purely voluntary organisation and members do not receive any compensation.
The Story
Put A Period’s journey started about a decade ago when four friends decided to address the issue of menstrual taboo that impacted every aspect of their daily lives as well as the lives of their peers. To ascertain the cause and extent of the taboo they conducted a survey among their middle school peers and determined that the leading cause of unawareness is a lack of fact-based education that perpetuates prejudice and disinformation. The survey also found that financial barriers prevented individuals and families from accessing proper menstrual products and healthcare. Supported by evidence-based research, the founders started designing and implementing training workshops and awareness campaigns. Although the organisation primarily works with underprivileged communities, it has implemented social media campaigns targeting a broader audience.

Project রাঙা (Ranga)
Project Ranga is Put A Period’s flagship awareness campaign. The aim of the project is to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene through targeted workshops and community engagement initiatives. A core part of this campaign is to address challenges regarding sustainability and healthcare access. On that front, Put A Period has partnered with Ella Pad to distribute reusable cloth pads and with gynaecologists to provide consultations free of cost to its beneficiaries. Each instalment of Project Ranga is customised to respond to the unique needs of specific communities. But, sessions are typically supplemented with training materials and free menstrual products. So far the project has successfully reached 300+ beneficiaries across public schools, slums, and orphanages.

Selected Social Media Campaigns
Put A Period has implemented educational and awareness campaigns on social media on numerous topics including but not limited to PCOS/PMOS, endometriosis, ovarian cancer, PMDD, and contraception. They have also created space for their audience to submit anonymous questions and have hosted trained professionals to provide answers. Put A Period has partnered with international organisations such as, Washington D.C. based AMAZE and India based Bindu, for their social media campaigns.

Put A Period X Projects for Peace
In summer of 2026, members of Put A Period secured a sizeable grant from Projects for Peace to implement an educational and training campaign regarding menstrual health and hygiene in flood-effected regions of Bangladesh. As part of the campaign, Put A Period has partnered with Ella Pad to provide training to local women on sustainable cloth pad manufacturing and entrepreneurial techniques. The campaigns design is based on data collected through a demographic and health survey that was conducted by members of Put A Period. Put A Period has also partnered with B.K. foundation for logistical support on this project. This is an on-going campaign and we encourage you to check Put A Period’s social media pages for the most recent updates.
